Event Details

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is pleased to announce country music legend Marty Stuart in concert on Friday, August 6, 2010!

Marty Stuart in Concert will be the New Orleans country music concert of the summer. This one-night only live performance will be in the Ogden Museum's Patrick F. Taylor Library, a 19-th century building designed by Henry Hobson Richardson - the only example of his architecture in the South. The show is presented in collaboration with "The Art of Country Music: The Marty Stuart Collection" Exhibition opening at the Ogden Museum on Saturday, August 7th during Whitney White Linen Night.

A four-time Grammy-winner, platinum recording artist, songwriter and Grand Ole Opry star, Stuart is the consummate showman. Accompanied by his touring and recording band, The Fabulous Superlatives, Stuart creates an unplugged live performance  that explores the diverse genres of country music. There will be a VIP meet-and-greet reception preceding the show, which includes a meet-and-greet with Stuart and preferred, reserved concert seating.

ABOUT MARTY STUART

Born in Philadelphia, Mississippi, Marty Stuart's musical journey has encompassed traditional country music, rockabilly, bluegrass, gospel and honky-tonk. After signing gospel as a child, Stuart progressed to bluegrass with Lester Flatt in the 1970s before joining Johnny Cash for six years in the 1980s and developing his own smash "hillbilly rock" hits of the 1990s. Stuart has performed or toured with many of the other greats of country music and has recorded more than 20 albums, including the groundbreaking Hillbilly Rock (1989), which yielded such hits as "Hillbilly Rock" and "Western Girls." In 1991, Stuart recorded the album Tempted, featuring the hit cover-version of Johnny Cash's "Cry, Cry, Cry."

Stuart has always been a champion of country music, leading him to form Superlatone Records and become host of "The Marty Stuart Show." Superlatone Records was founded in 2005 to produce Southern Gospel and roots music. It was on this label that he released his album, Souls' Chapel (2005). In 2008, "The Marty Stuart Show" debuted on RFD-TV and has become a top-rated program. Stuart most recently hosted a "Late Night Jam" in June 2010 featuring himself, Keith Urban, Vince Gill and others to raise money for those affected by the recent Nashville floods.
